The Florida Probe Story

The Florida Probe Handpiece (computerized probe) was invented at the University of Florida in 1985 in response to a request by the National Institutes of Health and received FDA approval in 1987. It was originally designed to provide the accuracy and consistency between multiple users that periodontal dental researchers needed in order to be able to report reliable and accurate probing data in their research projects.

Soon after, a computer program was added to organize and track changes in patients' periodontal health. This was the beginning of the Florida Probe System. We found that the addition of our FP32 Software not only reduced user errors, but it educated patients about the value of accepting treatments for periodontal disease, which usually has few obvious or motivating symptoms.

As innovators in the dental industry, our FP32 Software was the first dental software to receive Microsoft’s Seal of Approval (for Windows NT and 95).

In 2009, we are pleased to announce another major upgrade to our FP32 software, Version 9, which features Epad digital signature capture and storage for Patient Diagnosis Sheets/informed consent; Live Chat feature within the actual software; SQL database management and support for our new wireless keypad (part of the GoProbe System).
