Minimum Recommended Requirements for FP32 Version 4

  • Computer running Microsoft Windows 98se, NT4, 2000, Me or XP. Windows XP Home or Professional will give the best performance. * Windows 98 will need to load all service packs available.
  • Pentium III class processor with at least 256 MB of RAM. The program will run fine on slower computers, but the video training section and patient education movies require higher performance to play without skipping or dropping frames.
  • Microsoft Windows compatible sound card and speakers.
  • Video card with 32 or more megabytes of RAM.
  • Functional Serial Port (USB port will also work with appropriate drivers and adapter cable).
  • Color display set at 1024 x 768 or higher resolution with 16, 24 or 32-bit color.
  • Hard drive with 600 MB or more free space.
  • Backup drive of your choice (Zip, CD-RW, tape, etc.) to store your patient database.
  • Color printer. Many low cost ink-jet printers are available and work well.
  • Premium quality paper for best results. The sample printouts in the back of this manual were printed on Kodak Picture Paper, double-sided, medium weight (51 lb., 7 mil), using a low cost ink-jet printer.

The FP32 System includes: 3 Handpieces, a 15 gram Optical Encoder, a 3 pedal Footswitch, a computer Interface, FP32 Software for use in Windows, cables, power supply and a User Manual.

The constant force allows measurements to be standardized between operators. Treatment can begin in the earliest stages of disease, often preventing early bone loss and possible surgery. The system can record the main parameters of a periodontal exam, including recession, pocket depth, bleeding, suppuration, furcation involvement, mobility and plaque assessment. The pocket depth and bleeding sites are called out automatically by the user's choice of either a female voice or sound effects from the computer, not by the operator. The patient thereby hears the results from the computer and visually witnesses the exam on a color monitor with color-coded digital readouts - green, black and red - to identify the risk stages of disease. As such, the system is described as an excellent educational tool for increasing treatment acceptance.

The system also generates a four page color printout of documentation to provide detailed records for insurance filing and patient records. Printouts are color-coded to indicate at risk pockets that are more than 3.2mm in depth. Note: Many insurance companies have accepted a 0160 code when the exam is conducted following a failed PSR screening and gross debridement. A full exam can be accomplished in 10 -12 minutes or it can be expanded to a separate 40 - 50 minute visit when patient education and co-diagnosis are desired.

Basic Exam Procedure

1. Enter the patient's personal information via the keyboard, or with co-existing Practice Management software systems.
2. Enter all further exam information via the foot pedal and automated handpiece through an interface into the software. Note: This provides a sterile field of entry without the need of an assistant.
3. As directed by the software, collect data in a series, sweeping the mouth for any corrections.
4. Inform the patient of his/her condition as the exam progresses, much as for an intraoral exam. The interchangeable probe Handpieces feature 0.45 mm titanium tips that are safe to use around implants. More than 10,000 patient visits can be stored on one 100-megabyte Zip disk (10K per patient visit). The data can be reviewed at any time for patient history and comparison. The software is integratable with both windows and DOS versions of many other software packages.
