The ADA has now released the new CDT-4 Manual called "Code
on dental procedure and nomenclature", scheduled to begin
use on Jan.1, 2003. For purchasing information on the new CDT-4

The new manual includes 51 new codes, 40 codes that have been
revised and 28 deleted codes.
The ADA has released 1 new Diagnostic Code (D0180). Designed
to reimburse directly for periodontal probing and charting.
Here are the details:
Diagnostic Code (D0180) "Comprehensive periodontal evaluation-new
or established patient. This procedure is indicated for patients
showing signs or symptoms of periodontal disease and for patients
with risk factors such as smoking or diabetes. It includes evaluation
of periodontal conditions, probing and charting, evaluation and
recording of the patient's dental and medical history and general
health assessment. It may include the evaluation and recording
of the dental caries, missing or unerupted teeth, restorations,
occlusal relationships and oral cancer screening." page 27.
